This week marked the first official week of autumn for the Northern Hemisphere, and that means fall-themed treats are now acceptable to devour (and pumpkin spice lattes are back y’all)
While we stock up on all things pumpkin, here’s your latest weekly digest from the cloud β οΈ computing world
Let’s get right into it πͺπΌ

Reads of the Week
- Building event-driven architecture for member system
This event-based architecture was created as the result of considerations for the member domain, located at the very center of MSA, to not be affected by external systems, not to affect external systems, and to safely handle membersβ personal information. We continue to think of the member system as the most stable system in the center of MSA. - Why are Cloud Development Environments Spiking in Popularity, Now?
Cloud development environments are similar to how programmers used a terminal to program a central computer, back then. A big difference is that in the case of old-school timesharing, the goal was to save on infrastructure costs, as the cost of CPU cycles was far higher than programming time. - Building a successful Data Mesh β More than just a technology initiative
Over time, the central data function, far removed from data creation, was at a disadvantage, unable to extract most value from the data. The central data teams were several steps removed from its actual creation and werenβt the experts in the actual subject. They were experts in the data pipeline and the warehouse/lake processes but did not understand the product and transaction data they were trying to derive value out of
Lessons From Giants
- Scaling the Instagram Explore recommendations system
ο»Ώο»Ώ
How Instagram scales “Explore” a recommendation engine that leverages advanced Machine Learning models (like Two Towers neural networks) to make sure people are always seeing content is the most interesting and relevant to them
- How Netflix migrates critical traffic at scale – with No downtime π€―
In the world of Netflix, where streaming is where millions rely on uninterrupted experiences, system migrations are paramount. This two part blog series shares insights into Netflix’s approach, tools, and strategies for seamless transitions while maintaining exceptional customer experiences.
I learned a few things from their focus on Replay Traffic Testing in the preliminary validation phase, a versatile technique that simulates real production conditions, so you’ll explore its components, benefits, and real-world applications
Next book on my radar
I was looking for a book I could enjoy reading listening to during the long autumn walks and the “The Great Mental Models Volume 3” by Rhiannon Beaubien and Rosie Leizrowice came highly recommended.
This book promises to explore various mental models that can enhance one’s problem-solving skills and improve one’s decision-making process. It delves into concepts like probabilistic thinking, inversion, and second-order thinking in an attempt to provide valuable frameworks to approach complex problems. So I’m going to give it a go, and will make sure to share my notes and insight as usual in the βοΈ Guild’s book library.
