Another week, another roundup of the cloud!
It’s summer time ☀️ so we don’t get many releases as folks prefer to take time off (can you really blame them 🤷🏻) nonetheless, we got some cool goodies for you this week.
New Cloud Releases
We kick off this week’s releases with chataws a ChatGPT plugin simplifying AWS deployments. The author has helpfully provided a blog post to help you get started: ChatAWS: Deploy AWS Resources Seamlessly With ChatGPT
Talking about Serverless, AWS AppSync now supports JavaScript for all resolvers in GraphQL APIs – Last year, AWS announced that AppSync now supports JavaScript pipeline resolvers. And starting last week, developers can use JavaScript to write unit resolvers, pipeline resolvers, and AppSync functions that are run on the AppSync Javascript runtime.
Another banger of a resource is this Guide for using AWS Lambda to process Apache Kafka Streams – It doesn’t get more “complete guide you can find on how to use Lambda with Apache Kafka” than this. But if you are an Amazon Kinesis user, We got you covered as well with this video series where you will find similar topics.
Latest open source projects
s3zipper
I found out about this very nice tool that provides a couple of Lambda functions that let you use S3 Object Lambda Access Points to download ZIP files of directories in S3 on-demand. It’s called s3zipper – Once deployed, you don’t need any special tools installed on your client – anything that can download from S3 will do.
lambda-stream
lambda-stream this project implements AWS Lambda Response Streaming in TypeScript. The library adds types and local support for AWS Lambda response streaming. It drops in to any framework (Serverless, CDK, SAM, SST) and acts as an adapter for tests.
aws-service-limits
aws-service-limits is a tool that fetches and displays service quotas for AWS services. It uses the GetAWSDefaultServiceQuota API to retrieve information about the current setting and utilises the UsageMetric information to get the actual usage via CloudWatch.
New Book Summary
New Sales. Simplified
The title of the book might mislead you into thinking it’s a book for sales people. But you will be most wrong. I believe this book is very important for Solutions Architects because of the customer facing nature of the job, and because Solution Architects in AWS are under the sales organization and are expected to work hand in hand with the sales teams.
There are also a lot of nuggets I got from this book in relation to how to make successful presentations, customer calls, navigate customer’s uncertainty and others…
I tried my best to summarize it based on my notes and the notes of others: Happy reading
That’s a wrap for this edition of Last Week in the ⛅️ Cloud!
Stay curious, stay cloud-inspired. I’ll be back next week with more exciting news from the ever-evolving cloud universe.
Until then,
